The importance of the shape of lips is immense when considering their effect on the apparent "mood" or beauty of a person.

Thinning of the lips generally occur with aging, also having thin lips can limit the balance of the face.

(Please note smokers lines are very difficult to fully correct, their cause is multi-factorial and is not only related to smoking!

They may require combination therapies- eg peels/dermabrasion/Laser/rolling/fillers/anti wrinkle injections.)

Sculpting Lips requires three factors-

  1. Balancing and harmonising the lips with regard to the facial features and the profile is extremely important, also the size of the patients teeth may be a determining factor,
  2. Patient preference/style,
  3. Shape will be defined by the base shape/size. ( Not all patients can have Angelina's lips).

What can be done to enhance the beauty of lips?

  • Adjusting the thickness/pout of both lips, generally speaking the bottom lip should be slightly thicker
  • The Vermillion Border( edge) of the lips should be well defined( the frame) +/- Cupid's Bow
  • Pout/ projection of the lip/s is extremely important when a person is viewed/ photographed in profile e.g. models/ TV presenters
  • The angles of the mouth formed by the union of the lips may be upturned or downturned, e.g. Meg Ryan, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

1. since they can be altered,

2. can give a false impression of what is possible,since all patients respond differently,

3. will require a complete explanation eg . products used if a large or small difference is created,
