Facial filling proven to reduce appearance of age.

    June 15th 2010

The results of a new landmark study published in the March 2010 issue of Dermatologic Surgery, the official publication of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), confirm that a single, multisyringe treatment session administering facial fillers yields a quantifiable reduction in apparent age.

During the past several years, the use of injectable products to eliminate wrinkles and restore fullness to the skin has increased exponentially, due to sun damage, heredity and age contributing to frown lines and wrinkles. Aesthetic physicians use a variety of fillers to diminish wrinkles and return a more youthful appearance by binding water to the skin and replacing lost volume. Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used worldwide and have an excellent safety profile. We at FRESHface use only these advanced type fillers.

In this study, ten female patients, aged 42 to 59 with moderate to severe volume loss of the face, received several syringes (6-9 mLs) of injectable hyaluronic acid into the cheeks, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lips and chin in a single treatment session. No touch-up or alteration of treatment was allowed within the four-week study period.

Three board-certified cosmetic dermatologists assessed age at baseline, week three, and week four in photographs. The median decrease in perceived age at four weeks post-treatment was 7.3 years for the clinical investigators.

According to lead investigator Amy Forman Taub, MD, assistant clinical professor at Northwestern University Medical School, “This is the first study that provides objective data which quantifies how much a patient can improve with fillers.” Co-investigator Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, clinical professor of dermatology at NYU Medical Center, notes “Patients always ask me, ‘How much younger can I look with fillers?’” Sarnoff goes on to say “One patient recently told me ‘The mother of the bride just got a facelift. I’m the mother of the groom—I’ve got limited time, limited funds, and looking 7.3 years younger without going under the knife is good enough for me. I’ll take it!’”

Other key findings of the study include:

    • Post-treatment, the patients always perceived an even higher median change in age than the clinical investigators. For example, the median change in perceived age of the patient at two weeks was 6.1 years for the investigators and 9 years for the patients.
    • Similarly, while the investigators perceived a median change in age of 7.3 years four weeks post-treatment, the median change as perceived by the patients at four weeks was 7.8.

This study confirms that multisyringe injections of hyaluronic acid filler into the aging face in a single treatment session can result in a statistically significant decrease in perceived age. Fillers, with or without concurrent awi or laser resurfacing, can rejuvenate the face quickly, safely and cost-effectively, without surgery.

    About the study

“The Effect of Multisyringe Hyaluronic Acid Facial Rejuvenation on Perceived Age” was published in Dermatologic Surgery (Dermatol Surg 2010; 36: 323–328). In the study, three blinded board-certified cosmetic dermatologists rated 36 images taken by the VISIA CR system, all of the images were of the lower two-thirds of the face (the upper third was not treated) and included a standardized frontal view and two side views at 45° angles.

The images were scrambled such that there was no indication of which photos were before and after. Each clinical investigator was instructed to look at each image and spend no more than 30 seconds rating the subject’s age. They were also instructed not to compare photos or change any age rating after 30 seconds.

Analysis of the data revealed that multisyringe injection of hyaluronic acid filler into the aging face results in a reduction of apparent age of 6.1 to 9 years younger after two to four weeks.

Well now it’s proven in a study.

Are you ready for a great change?

    52 ways to be healthier!

    April 7th 2010
    1. Drink eight glasses of pure water a day.
    2. Get rid of any junk food in your house. If it’s not there, don’t go get it.
    3. Limit your caffeine intake: one to two cups of coffee a day.
    4. Plan your weekly meals on your day off.
    5. Spend 30 minutes twice a week cutting up fresh veggies to have them ready at all times.
    6. Keep seasonal fruit at home and eat it when you’re hungry or when a sweet tooth strikes.
    7. Substitute raw nuts and seeds for processed granola bars.
    8. Don’t drink alcohol on an empty stomach; it’s hard on your stomach and burns up B vitamins.
    9. Eat raw vegetables every day. Raw veggies contain important enzymes that can be lost when they’re cooked.
    10. Purchase as much of your food organic as you can. Your body will appreciate it as will our planet.
    11. Next time you make cookies or cake, substitute half of the butter with applesauce, pumpkin or prune puree. Less fat; more nutrients.
    12. Get at least eight hours of sleep a night.
    13. Vary your food; if you eat it today, don’t eat it for four days.
    14. Different colored food has different nutrients, so eat from the rainbow: red peppers, orange carrots, green kale, etc.
    15. Thicken soups with pureed beans. Delicious and added nutrition.
    16. Don’t drink water from plastic bottles. Polycarbonate water bottles (labeled #7) contain bisphenol A (BPA), which leaches from the plastic and has been linked to chromosome damage and hormone disruption.
    17. Start your day with a glass of fresh lemon water. 1/2 to 1 juiced lemon in water. Your liver loves it.
    18. De-stress. Find out what works for you. Warm baths? Exercise? Reading? Yoga? Walks in the woods? Find out what calms and soothes you and practice daily.
    19. Move daily. Find the movement that moves your body and eases your mind and make it a part of who you are. If you enjoy it, you will do it.
    20. Eat at a table, cloth napkin on your lap and chew well. Be thankful.
    21. Next time you want scrambled eggs (or tofu), sauté some veggies first, then add eggs. Try eating your veggies all day!
    22. Dry brush your skin before you shower in the morning. It’s good for your lymphatic system and your skin will be so much softer and healthier.
    23. Have at least one day a week without meat. Meatless Monday perhaps.
    24. Eat more beans! They’re high in protein, dietary fiber, and taste so good.
    25. Use whole grain flour in your baking instead of white flour. Whole-wheat pastry flour is a fine grind and much healthier than the white stuff.
    26. Remove white sugar from your diet or at least limit it. Use maple syrup, honey, agave or stevia instead.
    27. Don’t eat fake food! No artificial anything!
    28. Don’t eat out as much. Cook more.
    29. Exercise your mind! Learn a new dance, read a good book. Learn a new language. Keep your mind moving as well as your body.
    30. Learn to communicate better. Speak your mind, kindly, and be done with it. Don’t hold grudges. Forgive yourself and others.
    31. Make your own vinaigrette for your salads. Olive and/or flax oil, lemon juice or vinegar, a little Dijon mustard, a minced garlic clove and a little salt and pepper.
    32. Use sea salt instead of the highly processed salt you find in many grocery stores.
    33. Reduce salt intake. Use fresh herbs and lemon juice to boost flavor.
    34. Try to stay off computers and away from anything electronic two hours before bed for a better night’s sleep.
    35. Use plain yogurt instead of sour cream.
    36. Switch to whole wheat, corn or quinoa pasta (there are many selections) instead of pasta that uses refined flour.
    37. Don’t eat or drink any food with trans fat. Watch those nondairy creamers!
    38. Add more leafy greens to your life—kale, chard, spinach, radicchio, etc. They are wonder foods! Steam the greens for a couple minutes, drain and set aside. In a pan sauté some onions, garlic and shitake mushrooms in olive oil for a few minutes. Add the greens back in, stir and serve. Yum.
    39. Use less cheese in casseroles that call for cheese. Instead sprinkle grated cheese on top.
    40. Begin each day with a good stretch and some deep breaths.
    41. Try new ingredients. Buy a kohlrabi or something you’ve never tried before and go from there. Keep yourself inspired.
    42. Don’t reward yourself or your family with food.
    43. Try to eat whatever food is in season; it’s more nutritious and tastes better.
    44. Don’t go hungry. Eat healthy snacks so you don’t overeat later.
    45. Watch what you put on your skin. Many products are loaded with chemicals that you shouldn’t rub into your skin.
    46. Bake instead of frying your meats and fish.
    47. Increase omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Sources include walnuts, flax seeds, oil and cold water fish, such as salmon. Healthy fats are important to good health.
    48. Increase your intake of legumes: lentils, beans and peas. They are good sources of protein, dietary fiber and blood sugar regulators. Try split pea or lentil soup for breakfast! Think outside the box.
    49. Take supplements. Begin with a good multivitamin and speak with your health practitioner about others that may be needed for your optimum health.
    50. Watch your portion sizes as well as your plate and utensil sizes. Some forks and spoons look like garden utensils. Try chopsticks and eat slowly.
    51. Shop in the outside aisles of the grocery store. Most of the more processed foods are located in the middle aisles.
    52. Play! Everyone needs to have fun!

    Healthy inside=healthy skin.

    VOLUM+

    September 24th 2009

VOLUM+ is injectible hyaluronic volumiser that recontours the face to restore volume to chin, cheeks, and cheekbones that have become hollow or thin due to weight loss or age-related facial fat loss. Immediately after treatment, you should notice that your facial contours appear fuller and rounder . . . giving your face a softer, more youthful appearance. This will improve further over the next month or so!

Depending on your course of treatment you may notice a return of the soft, full cheeks, and firm, high cheekbones of youth, a refreshing revolumisation of the face, and a marked return of the smooth jowls and jawline and the firm chin of youth,

And, your results will last—the lifting effects of treatment with the VOLUM+ have been shown to last up to 18 months!

How does VOLUM+ work to achieve its results?

According to facial aesthetic expert Dr. Herve Respaldo, ‘an attractive face is characterised by smooth, round contours, high cheekbones, hollow jowls and a thin, well-defined jawline. These features together comprise the “triangle of beauty” or “heart of face”, with its base at the top and summit below.

As we age, facial fat loss, gravity, and loss of the skin’s natural elasticity conspire to reverse this triangle’s composition, leading to a narrower, less youthful forehead and temple area, and a wider, heavier jawline.

Fortunately, VOLUM+ can restore the face’s balance and heart-shaped proportions, revolumising facial hollows and  lost volume and recontouring the cheeks, cheekbones, and nose for a fuller, softer, more youthful appearance. The VOLUM+ helps recapture the facial volume that age and weight loss can diminish. With VOLUM+, an innovative injectable hyaluronic volumiser, you can enjoy a smoother more youthful appearance of your cheeks, cheekbones, and chin.

    Enjoy increased confidence with VOLUM+

Perhaps the best indicator of the advantages and benefits of treatment with VOLUM+ is the level to which those who have used it enjoy their results. A clinical study demonstrated that at 6 to 18 months after treatment, all study participants rated their results as positive!

Similarly, the vast majority of study participants indicated that they would recommend treatment with VOLUM+ to others based on their own experience of feeling more attractive, with better self-esteem and greater confidence.

Sample before and after images( post photos are straight after procedure, results will vary)-

The final images 8, 9, 10, are the PRE treatment images, and these show the “sunken” in mid cheeks, and eye bags, which are corrected in the earlier images.

**So who is Volum+ for …. if you are around 40 and above, or have sunken in cheeks/flattened cheeks.

1.Treatment time will take approximately 40 minutes, and the results will be evident instantly, they will improve over the next month, when you will be reviewed again,( first review at one week).

2.Results expected to last up to 18months.

3.Price -depends on  amount of filler required.

    What women( and men) want…

    September 24th 2009

    Relax, restore and volumize( VOLUM+)

The best ways to slow facial aging and edit out signs of aging are the three basic tenits-

Relax- using AWI’s, we will endeavour to limit some dynamic wrinkles, and in some cases stop certain areas of movement( we use a graded custom designed scaling to achieve just the right look),

Restore- replace what was missing and adjust various areas, eg. brow heights, and lip volume,

as we age, gravity takes its toll, and the facial tissues descend downward, leading to jowls, deep lines around our nose and mouth, and on our chins. We also lose volume, as the fat pads in our face and cheeks not only fall, they diminish in size. We see a second bag form under the eyes, a diagonal line or depression form from the inner corner of the eye towards the ear, and we see a flattening of the cheeks.

Volumize- finally we can define cheek bones, jawline, and now fill in the midface to really plump up the face.

This is via a wonderful new product, VOLUM+, we will be able to defy gravity and lift your cheeks for up to 18months, the procedure is almost painfree, and will take approximately 40mins.

We have added some before and after pics, to illustrate its effect, these were taken at a training session, they are immediately post procedure, so the result will be even more improved.

So who is Volum+ for …. if you are around 40 and above, or have sunken in cheeks/flattened cheeks.

    Think VOLUM+ , think youth.

    Prices and fees…

    September 22nd 2009

We at FRESHface Clinic, provide the latest and best proven treatments for Cosmetic Surgery. Our prices have remained static in the last 2 years, whilst the financial crisis has wafted through our lives.

Nevertheless, we have kept our pricing at a competitive and reasonable level so that all our patients will be able to afford and receive the appropriate treatments, for optimum results.

There are clinics out there who are ridiculously exorbitant, and all I can say , why don’t you try us, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

On another note, all consultations which do not evolve into a treatment on that day, will be charged. Cosmetic  Surgery is not cheap, and is not for everyone, it is extremely high stress and results orientated, thus we advise any patient who wants to contemplate it, please do not compare it to the Bulk Billing Medicare system.

Most of my colleagues and myself are extremely well trained, and have years of experience, this does not come cheap, and I let you compare for example lawyers fees.

So just remember, FRESHface is extreemly competitive with our pricing!

Saving face- the start of a prevention revolution

    August 12th 2009

When Natalie N, 24, looks in the mirror she sees one faint line across her forehead. She knows no one notices but her, but “when I’m 40 and have a huge line across my forehead they’re going to notice.”

And so it is, whether we are noticing more nowadays, this is a common occurance at FRESHface, where my patients are trying to “head off’ certain lines and in so doing delay or prevent a line from forming.

As I tell my patients, “once a deep line is formed, you’ve almost missed the boat.”

Just the other day another patient wanted to “slow” aging, lets get the word out!

Other ways to help prevent lines are our skin care regimes, and laser packages.

    Retinoids are important!

    July 7th 2009

The retinoid conundrum – results are great, but patient compliance is lousy

LAS VEGAS — With a strong body of clinical research backing up their efficacy, retinoids represent one of the best anti-aging tools dermatologists can offer, but they come with a big caveat – frequent non-compliance, said Kathy A. Fields, M.D., at the annual meeting of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery.

“The pitfall of retinoids is that they are difficult to use and they’re irritating, so doctors often have to deal with a lack of compliance,” said Dr. Fields, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California in San Francisco.

Physicians can try to boost compliance, however but not giving up too easily. “If you want patients to get the benefits of retinoids, try starting by suggesting use just two times a week,” she suggested. “If they can manage that, then try going to three times a week. It’s still better than nothing.”

We always give a thorough program to help prevent side effect, also we sell discounted retinoids as we believe they are important in our care.

    Ageing gracefully

    June 17th 2007

Hi, everyone, well what is “ageing gracefully”?

How can we do it, can we turn the clock back? What’s this hype about anti-ageing this and that?

Well, for starters there’s good and bad news, the bad news first!

There is NO anti-ageing treatment that works! We can’t stop/reverse the ageing process.

    quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/antiagingpp.html

Now the good news, we might be able to do the something about ageing in the future, and we can do things to slow/treat signs of ageing( at least our skin).
For now, lets age-well, yes that means a healthy, furfulling life, whilst maintaining our looks as best as possible, trying to stay looking maybe 5 years younger than we really are! We don’t want to be eighty, but look 50? Or do we?

At FRESHface, we really try hard to keep our patients as happy as possible, and healthy, looking great (slightly younger than your true age).

Using specific fillers in certain areas can really make a difference, as when we age, we inevitably lose volume in our skin/tissues, so areas will look flatter, or creases get deeper.

Contact us on 1300 46 37 37 ( GO FRESH) to see how we can make sure you’re ageing gracefully!

Some things to stay healthy and age-well-

    1. Stop Smoking- apart from a premature death from lung cancer, it will starve your skin of nutrients

    2. Excercise regularily/keep busy

    3. Eat a well balanced diet, more tofu, reduce calories, preferably also less meat, more fish, more raw food, drink a small amount of alcohol, red wine from Bordeaux etc Click here for calorie restriction articles-

    4. Use a retinol based cream- FRESHface regularily advised our patients to use one! Click here to read an article discussing one of many on these creams

    5. take some multi-vitamins, and anti-oxidants

    6. listen to your body, know your family history of diseases eg. Cancer, go for regular health checks- e.g Breast examinations, pelvic ultrasounds if you a history of breast or ovarian cancers in your family

    7. Avoid unecessary prolonged sun exposure/solariums(they age your skin faster)- think of leather when you lie on Bondi! Use a sun block, and oh yes keep an eye on your moles!

    8. Find happiness in your life- partner/friends/work/hobbies

    9. sleep well

    10. meditate, do yoga

    11. learn a language, yes being bilingualpeople may stave off memory loss, click here to read this
