Cosmetic Surgery stats for last year are in!

    February 14th 2012

For the second year in a row, the number of cosmetic procedures performed in America increased, illustrating that an uncertain economy isn’t deterring patients. A total of 13.8 million cosmetic procedures, both invasive and minimally invasive, were performed in 2011, a 5 percent increase over 2010. Reconstructive surgeries were also up 5 percent to 5.5 million procedures, according to reports released this week from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Somewhat surprisingly, facelifts saw a 5 percent increase (119,000 procedures) for the first time since 2004, yet eyelid surgery saw a 6 percent decrease. The top five surgeries included facelifts, as well as breast augmentation (307,000 procedures), nose reshaping (244,000), liposuction (205,000) and eyelid surgery (196,000).

Among minimally invasive treatments, Botox injections lead with 5.7 million procedures, followed by fillers (1.9 million), chemical peels (1.1 million), laser hair removal (1.1 million) and microdermabrasion (900,000). Laser hair removal saw the biggest jump, up 15 percent, since 2010.

“While the rate of economic recovery in the U.S. is still uncertain, 2011 proved to be a good year for plastic surgery,” said ASPS President Malcolm Z. Roth, MD. “Consumer confidence was up, auto sales rose 10 percent, so it is not surprising that we would also see increased demand for plastic surgery procedures.”

Were you one of those patients who helped increase the 2011 numbers, or will 2012 be the year you opt for a cosmetic procedure? Let us know!

At Freshface, we always strive to keep our patients looking as great as possible, from minimally invasive to surgical procedures.

I want to look like this….

Hollywood certainly influences our perceptions of beauty, and like all media, it is the emotion tied to imagery. Men are masculine, women feminine, look at the body language in the picture below.

Who watched Mad Men, all these coiffed and elegant people.

Some London-based plastic surgeons say that they have seen an increase of as much as 54 percent in patients wanting the procedure in order to mimic the hourglass silhouettes of the female characters on the program, which is set in the 1960s.

Experts say that women had much smaller waists 50 years ago and also wore corsetry to accentuate the effect. The modern diet, lifestyle and inactivity have made this look difficult, even for relatively slim women.

Recently, a new trend is the Mad Men waistline( girls).

So how do you get one, well, diet, exercise, then liposcult your waist.

Or just get a corset, either way we can all look great. Get some vintage clothes, have fun, be happy!

    Love handle solution

    July 14th 2011

Lipo or body sculpting is the only way to shape certain areas….

No one wants unwanted bulges, and those that appear where you want a smooth contour – like the love handles or bra bulges on your back—can be tormenting. You may want liposuction to take away the fat, but what remains could result in loose skin. Liposelection by Vaser is a liposuction technology especially useful for the love handles, back and anywhere where you want not only fat gone, but smooth skin left in its place. It works quite simply: The tip of a tiny wand (called a cannula) emits ultrasonic waves when inserted into the skin. This liquefies the fat for easier suctioning, and it heats the internal tissues for contraction. Kiss those love handles good buy and grab on to something else!

Tough areas to lose also- inner thigh, saddle bags, chin, arms….

The best technology, and techniques available at FRESHface clinic.

Keep looking great! Have you seen our promotions?

    Liposculpture myths debunked

Four Common Myths Debunked for Sydney Liposuction Patients

Seattle liposuctionSetting realistic expectations is an important part of ensuring liposuction patients are happy with their results, that’s why Dr Young educates his patients.

Lipo Myth #1: Liposuction For Weight Loss

Because liposuction permanently reduces fatty tissue, many men and women mistakenly believe that liposuction can help them lose weight. Although liposuction does remove fat cells from targeted areas, helping you lose inches and slim your physique, it does not actually help with weight loss and will not cause a noticeable reduction in weight.

Liposuction is not an effective way to combat obesity. In fact, obese patients are often not good candidates for the procedure, as health problems caused by obesity can make elective surgery too risky. Surgical fat reduction with lipo is best for patients who follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen and simply want to improve body proportions and contours or get rid of stubborn fat deposits in particular body areas.

Lipo Myth #2: Liposuction Reduces Cellulite

To understand why liposuction does not help reduce the appearance of cellulite, it is important to understand that liposuction surgery removes fat in deeper tissue layers but does not affect superficial fat deposits that, in combination with loss of skin elasticity, cause cellulite.

Non-surgical skin tightening procedures may provide temporary cellulite reduction, but the best way to get rid of cellulite is with lifestyle changes that help you maintain well hydrated, collagen rich skin.

    Lipo Myth #3: Non-Surgical Liposuction

No matter what the advertisements tell you, liposuction is a surgical procedure. There are some body slimming devices out there that claim to provide fat reduction without surgery, however these are often only mildly effective, if at all, and will not provide the guaranteed results possible with liposuction surgery.

Although liposuction is minimally invasive, it does still involve some sort of anesthesia and incisions needed to insert the suction tube, or cannula, that removes fat cells. So, very small, discreet liposuction scars will be present after the procedure, and patients will need to take at least a few days off work following liposuction.

Lipo Myth #4: Liposuction Gets Rid of Loose Skin

Liposuction is not an effective skin tightening treatment and cannot get rid of loose skin. However, liposuction is frequently performed in combination with procedures that address flab and excess skin such as tummy tuck and neck lift surgery.

Some laser liposuction devices claim to offer skin tightening benefits in addition to fat reduction, but any skin tightening achieved with lasers during liposuction is usually minimal and will not do much for patients with moderate to severe skin laxity.

    So keeping fighting the flab!
